How to Get A Side Hustle with Shopify

My #2 Side Hustle…….. Shopify!  Yep, my own website!

I am hoping that one Shopify will move to my #1 side hustle….but it takes time to build traffic to your own website. So this one will require a little patience and a lot of social media interaction to get traffic to your website.

You can checkout my online store…. Treasure Island Shop

What is Shopify? It is an awesome Ecommerce platform for building your own website. It is super easy to use. I was able to get my new website setup and running during the free trial period. I loved it so much, I decided to sign up and get busy building my customer base for my new Ecommerce business. You do not need to have a technical background either, anyone can do it. It was so simple!!

You will love them! Check them out, you won’t be disappointed!!! Shopify

They even offer a 14 day FREE trial period… you have nothing to lose….ok, except for a little bit of time checking out the site (and maybe doing a mock setup of your business) but it is well worth it!

Here are a few tips I picked up along the way when I was building  my online store.

  • Learn about the product. Take a few days to learn about Shopify and how everything works. Read the setup information. I found the blogs on Shopify to be very helpful as well during my setup process.
  • Test the product. Choose a basic theme (with no cost) and start playing with your setup. Don’t be concerned about possibly deciding on a different theme later because Shopify can take your information from the test theme and apply it to your final chosen theme in a matter of minutes. I used a generic theme during my testing phase and decided on a paid theme for my final theme. It was like magic how Shopify transferred all of my info from the old theme into my new theme in a matter of minutes. In addition, they transferred everything accurately! That was a big deal to me since I didn’t need to go back and redo my work again for my new theme.
  • Export/Import Tools. Shopify has an amazing export/import tool that I personally used to export my products from EBay and import them into my Shopify store. I had over 300 products listed on EBay and it took the Shopify export/import tool less than 15 minutes to pull all of my products into my Shopify store. I can not tell you how thankful I was that Shopify had this export/import tool. It saved me weeks (and maybe even months) worth of additional work adding my products to my new Shopify store manually.
  • Social Media Testing. This one was a critical part of my final testing phase…..and it was free! I created an Instagram and Facebook account for my Shopify store. I started posting things about my store with product teasers and information about my website. In addition I asked 10 people to test my new website and provide me with (honest) feedback about my new website, which most were happy to do. Their feedback was invaluable and one of the main reasons I decided to choose a paid theme instead of my original free theme. Remember, your customers are the reason you have the store. You may think your store looks great but your customers see if from a buyers perspective…….so use social media to have them test your website before you launch it.

My store is still a “work in progress” with a list of improvements constantly swimming in my mind but overall I am so happy that I decided to go with Shopify. It was super easy to setup and their customer support is amazing! Not to mention, their fees are minimal when you compare them to other avenues like EBay or Amazon.

Good luck with setting up your new online business and let me know if you have any questions about my Shopify experience.

Now get out there and Get A Side Hustle!!!

Until next time my friends, Christie
